Chapter 2 of 4
Chapter 2 of 4
Trials and first charges
A trial period lets people try your subscription before paying the full price. It lowers the entry barrier and, if the content is good, most stay. The trial is part of the offer, so the same product can have an offer with a trial and another without.
Create an offer with a trial
- 1. Open the product in Products, open Settings, click Offers and then New offer.
- 2. Under Payment mode, choose Subscription.
- 3. Type the Price including VAT in euros and choose the Frequency.
- 4. Under Trial period, choose Free trial or Low-cost trial.
- 5. Type the Trial days and, for the low-cost one, the Trial price in euros.
- 6. Click Save offer.
The trial lasts from 4 to 90 days. The low-cost one has to cost less than the subscription price.
Free or low cost
A free trial attracts more people. Some of them sign up with no intention of staying. A low-cost trial, for example €1 the first week, filters out the curious and leaves you a first charge. If your content is used in a few days, a short trial works better than a long one.
What the buyer sees
The payment button says what is charged, for example “Subscribe free for 7 days · then €9.00/month”. OnBio emails the buyer 3 days before the first full charge, with the amount, the date and the link to unsubscribe. That notice avoids charges the buyer did not expect and the refunds that would follow.
The first full charge
When the trial ends, OnBio charges the first full period with the same card or wallet. That charge is covered by your guarantee like a normal purchase. The following renewals no longer carry it. Subscriptions and trial periods explains it.
What you have now
Your subscription has a trial so people take the step. In the next chapter you see what happens when you change the price.
