Chapter 4 of 5

Risk reserves

If your refund or chargeback rates rise above the review thresholds, OnBio keeps part of your balance for a while. The reserve covers the refunds that may come, so your balance does not go negative. It is released on its own when the rates go back to normal.

How it works

When it is activated you get the email “We have activated a reserve on your balance” with your rates, the percentage and the days each tranche lasts. While it is active, OnBio keeps that percentage of each release, each time a sale ends its guarantee. Each held tranche goes back to your available balance when its period ends.

See your reserve

  1. 1. Open Payouts in the side menu.
  2. 2. Look at the Held figure of the balance.
  3. 3. Read the reserve notice, with your rates and the date the last tranche is released.

When it ends

When your rates have been below the thresholds for 30 days, the reserve ends and you get an email. The tranches already held keep being released on their date.

The reserve does not block your sales or your buyers' access. If the rates keep rising up to the block threshold, OnBio pauses your new sales while a person on the team reviews the case. Sales blocked explains it.

How to lower the rates

  • Review the reasons for your refunds. If one repeats, such as the product not being what they expected, improve its sales page.
  • Answer your buyers' questions quickly in Support, before they go to their bank.
  • Check that your business name is recognisable, because it is the one the buyer sees on their statement.
  • Show whoever does not recognise a charge the page who charged me, which tells them which store it belongs to.
  • Deliver what the sales page promises and on time, because an unmet promise is the most common reason for a refund.

What you have now

You know what a reserve is and how to avoid it. In the last chapter you see the reports you give your accountant.
