Chapter 4 of 5
Chapter 4 of 5
Moderation
In your community you decide what stays. You can delete posts and comments that break the rules, mute a member for a while or expel them. Clear rules pinned at the top of the feed give you something to point to when you have to act.
Mute or expel
- 1. Open the community and click the Members tab.
- 2. Find the member by their email and click their row's menu.
- 3. Choose Mute for 24 hours, Mute for 7 days, Mute indefinitely or Expel.
A muted member can read the community. Until the mute ends they cannot post, comment or react. An expelled member stops seeing the community. You can readmit them from Members.
Expelling does not refund
Expelling does not cancel the member's purchase or subscription. If you want to cancel it, the notice offers Manage the purchase and the subscription. Think first about what you do with their money, especially in a membership charged every month.
Share the work
When the community grows, you cannot read everything. Make trusted members moderators from their row's menu in Members. For someone on your team with the support role:
- 1. Click the Moderation tab.
- 2. Click Designate a support account and choose the account.
- 3. Click Designate.
Before acting
Not every conflict calls for a penalty. Often a public comment recalling the rules or a private message to the member is enough. Mute when someone repeats what you already asked them not to do. Expel only for serious faults, such as harassment or scams, because expulsion takes away the community they paid for.
The log
Each action stays in the Moderation log with who did it, when and its reason. If a member complains, you have what happened in writing. Moderate your community explains it.
What you have now
You know how to moderate your community and share the work. In the last chapter you see how the email digest brings your members back.
