Chapter 2 of 5

Sources of your sales

With Sources you know whether your sales come from Instagram, from TikTok, from your newsletter or from your affiliates. That way you put your time and money into the channels that really bring you sales.

Compare your channels

  1. 1. Click Analytics in the side menu and open Sources.
  2. 2. Choose the period.
  3. 3. Choose how to group under Group by.

Each row shows the visits, the purchases, the conversion, the gross and the net of that source. It also says what share of your sales it brings, so you compare at a glance.

The groupings

  • Channel separates affiliates, email, UTM campaigns, social networks, other sites and direct.
  • UTM shows the source, medium and campaign of your tagged links.
  • Social compares each social network.
  • Affiliates and Other sites show each affiliate and each website linking to you.

Add the utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign parameters to your links, for example in your newsletter link or an ad's. Purchases that arrive through that link appear with that source, medium and campaign. Always use the same names so they do not split into several rows.

Read the results

A channel with many visits and few purchases attracts curious people who do not buy. A channel with few visits and good conversion deserves more effort. Compare each source's net, not only the gross, because an affiliate's sale leaves you less than a direct one.

How the source is decided

Each sale counts in a single source. If it has several, the first in this order wins: affiliate, OnBio email, UTM, social network, other site and direct. A purchase from the Instagram browser without UTM counts in the Instagram social network.

With analytics cookies accepted, the purchase is tied to the source of the first visit of the last 30 days. Without them, the source of the visit where payment started counts. Where your sales come from explains it.

What you have now

You know which channels bring you sales. In the next chapter you look for the step where buyers drop off.
