Chapter 2 of 4
Chapter 2 of 4
Set up the DNS
Connecting the domain means creating a record in your provider's panel. OnBio gives you the exact details. You copy them at your provider and OnBio checks they are right. You do not need to know about DNS to do it.
Ask for the record
- 1. Open Store in the side menu and click the Domain tab.
- 2. Click Connect domain.
- 3. Type the Domain, for example shop.yourdomain.com.
- 4. Copy the Type, the Name and the Value of the record the screen shows.
Create the record at your provider
- 1. Open your domain's DNS zone at your provider.
- 2. Create a record with the Type, the Name and the Value you copied.
- 3. Save the record.
- 4. Go back to Domain and click Check now.
Each provider calls the DNS zone differently: DNS management, records or domain zone. Look for the option to add a record.
The most common mistake
Many providers add your domain to the end of the name on their own. If you type shop.yourdomain.com in the name, the record ends up as shop.yourdomain.com.yourdomain.com and does not work. Type in the name only what the screen shows. Also check you do not have another record with the same name.
How long it takes
The record takes from a few minutes to 24 hours to propagate across the internet. The domain appears as Waiting for DNS meanwhile. OnBio keeps checking it for 72 hours. You do not need to click Check now again and again.
If it is not found
If after that time OnBio does not find the record, the domain becomes Error with “We could not find the CNAME record.” and you get an email. Check the record at your provider and click Try again. Connect your own domain explains it.
What you have now
Your record is created. In the next chapter you follow the certificate until the domain is active.
