Chapter 1 of 4
Chapter 1 of 4
Choose the domain
Before touching anything at your provider, decide at which address you want your store. That address is the one you will put in your bio, your emails and your ads. Changing it later means updating it in all those places.
A subdomain
OnBio connects a subdomain, such as shop.yourdomain.com or courses.yourdomain.com. The root domain, yourdomain.com, does not accept the CNAME record that is needed. Choose a short subdomain that is easy to say, because many people will type it by hand.
And your root domain
If you want whoever types yourdomain.com to reach your store, create a redirect at your provider from yourdomain.com to your subdomain. That way you can have your website on the root domain and your store on the subdomain, or take everything to the store.
What you need
- Your store published, because a domain only connects to a published store.
- Access to your domain provider's panel, where DNS records are created.
- To be the owner or have the administration role.
If someone else manages the domain, such as whoever built your website, ask them for access or give them the record's details from the next chapter.
If the domain is already in use
If the subdomain already points to another service, such as another store platform, remove it from there before connecting it to OnBio. If not, activation fails with the notice that another service already uses the domain. My own domain is not working explains it.
Meanwhile
Your store keeps working on onbio.es while you connect the domain. You do not lose any sale during the change. When the domain is active, whoever enters through the onbio.es address reaches the same store on your domain.
What you have now
You have chosen the subdomain. In the next chapter you create its DNS record.
