Chapter 4 of 4

Test, activate and measure

Before an automation writes to your contacts it is worth watching it run. After you activate it, its figures tell you which email or which wait to change. This chapter closes the cycle.

Test it with your account

  1. 1. Click Test in the head of the builder.
  2. 2. The panel of the test shows each step it goes through, with what it did.
  3. 3. At each condition, choose which branch it follows with Yes or No.

The test runs with your account as the contact. Waits last 10 seconds and emails reach your address marked as a test. Actions that would touch other people, like granting access or notifying your team, are not done. Nothing of the test counts in the figures.

Activate it

Click Activate. If something is missing, like an email without a subject or an empty branch, the step turns red with what needs completing and its settings open on their own. Complete it and click Activate again. From that moment, each contact enters when their trigger happens.

Change without cutting anyone off

You can keep editing an active automation. Your changes stay as Unpublished changes until you click Publish changes, which creates a new version. New contacts enter it and those already inside finish in theirs. The Versions tab lists each published version with its date.

Measure each step

Open the Metrics tab. Each card shows how many contacts entered and how many are waiting now. An email adds its opens, its clicks and the sales it brought. A condition shows how many went on through each branch. With All versions you choose to see the figures of a single version.

Click a step to see the contacts waiting on it, with how long they have been there and when they go on.

What to look at first

If an email has few opens, change its subject. If it has opens but few clicks, review its content and its button. If many contacts stay in a long wait, shorten it. Change one thing at a time and compare the new version with the previous one.
