Import contacts

On this page
Import wizard with the CSV upload area and the consent declaration.

Here you upload a CSV with contacts who gave you permission to receive your emails. The wizard has three steps: upload the file, map the columns and review the report.

How to get there

In Contacts, click Import. Only the owner and administration can import contacts.

What you can do

  • Upload a CSV of up to 50,000 rows and 20 MB.
  • Say which column is the email, the first name, the last name and the tags.
  • Add a tag to all imported contacts.
  • Check the rows before importing and download the discarded ones.

Step by step

Import a CSV

  1. 1. Drag your CSV onto the upload area or click it to choose the file.
  2. 2. Tick the consent statement.
  3. 3. Click Continue.
  4. 4. Choose the Field in OnBio for each column. The email is required.
  5. 5. Click Check rows.
  6. 6. Review the valid and discarded rows in the report.
  7. 7. Click the import button, which says how many contacts go in.

What happens next

New contacts are created, and existing ones keep their details and receive the new tags. When it finishes, click See imported contacts or Download discarded rows to review the ones that did not go in.

Keep in mind

  • Only import people who accepted your emails and whose consent you can prove. The statement is saved with the version of its text.
  • Anyone who unsubscribed on OnBio stays unsubscribed even if they are in the file.
  • A row is discarded for an invalid email, an email repeated in the file, an empty row or a name or tag that is too long.
  • If the import stops, the contacts saved up to that point are kept.

These roles can open this screen: owner, admin, content editor and support.
