Recover failed payments and abandoned carts

Reviewed on 4 October 2026

A sale can be lost when the charge of an instalment or a subscription fails, or when someone starts paying and does not finish. OnBio retries the charges on its own. Two email flows help you recover what the retries do not.

Turn on the recovery flows

Both flows come already built with their example emails. They start turned off so you review their texts before they go out.

  1. 1. Open Email in the side menu and click the Flows tab.
  2. 2. Find Payment recovery and click Edit to review its two emails.
  3. 3. Click Activate.
  4. 4. Find Cart reminder, review its email and click Activate.

What happens next

When a charge fails, OnBio retries it for 7 days and tells the buyer with a link to change the card, valid for 14 days. When they save the new card, the pending amount is charged. If the Payment recovery flow is on, the buyer also receives its two emails, which stop as soon as they pay.

When someone leaves the payment halfway for 60 minutes, Cart reminder sends them an email with the link to continue where they left off.

Keep in mind

  • The cart reminder only goes out if the person ticked at checkout that they accept your emails. It does not go out if they already bought the product.
  • Each abandoned checkout sends a single reminder.
  • If a subscription charge is not recovered in 7 days, the subscription is cancelled. In an instalment plan, the plan becomes Defaulted and the access is suspended until the buyer pays.
  • If you have WhatsApp connected, the buyer who accepted WhatsApp also receives the failed charge notice on that channel.
